HCA: No Comment on Hospital Investigation

Following the story that ran in the New York Times on Monday, reporting a federal investigation of the HCA hospital chain, the company remains tight-lipped on the details.

As our blog reported earlier this week, HCA reported in an SEC filing that the U.S. Attorney in Miami has requested information relating to whether doctors at some HCA facilities have been performing unnecessary heart procedures on patients.

Since the Times story and the company’s SEC filing, HCA has declined comment on which hospitals are being investigated and what states, other than Florida, might be within the scope of the government’s inquiry.

HCA is the country’s largest hospital chain, with 163 hospitals and 110 surgery centers in 20 states.
